This trust was established in December,1979 under the directions of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal, the 69th Pontiff of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam’ The Trust was blessed by His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal ( Kanchi Maha Swamigal), the 68th Pontiff.
The Trust document is a very comprehensive one with the objects covering a very large spectrum of philanthropic services in education, healthcare ,giving a decent life for the infirm, the aged and destitute persons of both sexes, rendering tilely assistance to the victims of natural calamities like earth quakes, floods, tsunami etc.
The Trust also aims at providing education, vocational training , guidance for establishing viable small businesses – traditional and non-traditional-, publication of books to educate the masses, promotion of agriculture, horticulture etc and even funding of need-based research in such areas etc.
The Trust activities are confined to all states and union territories of India . The scope of work is all encompassing and covers all aspects to reduce suffering and improve improve infrastructural facilities – all with a human touch.
The Trust has been serving the above needs in a very satisfactory manner for the last 25plus years of its existence The major activities are as given below:
VRIDHASHRAM(Old Age Homes) or Homes for the care of Senior Citizens.
The Trust has set up and is running five such homes in various parts of Tamil Nadu. The biggest one is at Kalavai in Vellore District where the Home houses almost 150 senior citizens. In all the five homes put together the Trust is taking care of over 500 senior citizens. The homes provide accommodation, clothing, food , medical and entertainment needs etc of the inmates and all the facilities are provided absolutely free in all the homes.
The homes arrange for the final rites as and when required in consultation with the relatives of the inmate
Shelter for Physically Challenged Persons
Kalavai Vridhasramam also houses over 30 physically challenged persons , age ranging from 10 to 30 years. All their basic needs are met and they are encouraged to attend educational institutions such as schools, vocational training institutions , colleges etc. The inmates are allowed to stay in the shelter even after they get a job
Free Medical Clinics
The Trust is running free medical clinics at four different rural centres in Tamil Nadu. These clinics have modern buildings and facilities and are manned by qualified doctors who do outpatient clinics from 10 am to 5 pm daily . . Over 250 persons take advantage of this daily. Apart from these general clinics , the Trust in collaboration with Sri Sankara Eye Hospital , Coimbaore, arranges eye treatment camps at various locations once a month. The patients are screened by experts with thehelp of modern instruments and those who need corrective surgery , are taken to the ultramodern hospital at Coimbatore for surgery and rehab.The entire process is conducted free of charge to the patients. So far over 50,000 patients have benefited from this activity
The Trust has also been liberally contributing to various calamity relief funds and did exemplary service during the Gujarat Earthquake and the Tsunami attack
The Trust also helps needy girls of marriageable age by providing financial assistance for conducting simple and austere marriages
His Holiness Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal keeps a regular track of the various relief activities and provides His valuable guidance wherever required
The Trust has built up a corpus fund thanks to the well-meaning and philanthropic devotees of the Matam We also send out appeals to devotees who respond very generously
All donations to the Trust qualify for exemption under Sec 80G of the Income Tax of the Govt of India
